Power of the Purse 2018

Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund announces its 14th annual “Power of the Purse” luncheon, its largest fundraiser, on Wednesday, April 18 th , at Holiday Inn Conference Center. Registration, networking, and prize baskets raffle start at 10:30 a.m., with the luncheon and program from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund invests in Fond du Lac area women and girls through grants to local programs that can change lives. This year’s luncheon will focus on its “Fond du Lac Says NO MORE: Preventing Violence Against Fond du Lac Area Women & Children” initiative. The initiative is a collaboration with agencies providing direct services to survivors of violence.

Keynote speaker Tamra Oman, a Fond du Lac resident, is a national speaker, group facilitator and co-founder of Hope Road, LLC – Soul Punch Skill Training with love. She is also a survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault at a very young age. Tamra was deeply affected, taking a path that led her to prison. Today, as a Human Services Program Coordinator at Wisconsin Resource Center, she works with individuals with histories of trauma, addiction and mental health challenges, developing invaluable programs for inmates, giving them a voice and needed support. She was recognized with the 2015 Virginia Hart Special Recognition Award for “unsung heroines” in State service. Tamra’s story, told with humor and compassion, is both heartbreaking and inspiring.

A luncheon highlight will be presentation of 2018’s “Women of Achievement” award, honoring local women whose tireless efforts, through visionary thinking, entrepreneurial spirit, leadership, and/or philanthropy, made a significant difference, or greatly enhanced, quality of life in our community. The 2018 recipient will be announced soon. Past recipients are: Marian Sheridan; Terri Emanuel; Dottie Keenan; Patricia Miller; Dawn Colwin and Dorothy Klumpyan; Jo
Ann Ward, Judy Goldsmith, Barbara Lent, Virginia Gilmore, Mary Fran Merwin, Ruth Michels, Dr. Joan Regan, Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes, and Shelly Stayer.
