Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund, promoting positive change in the lives of Fond du Lac area women & girls, has awarded its 2015 grants. Grants are awarded to programs for primary benefit of Fond du Lac area women or girls in any Women’s Fund funding priority: education; leadership development; financial self-sufficiency; safety, dignity, and freedom from violence.
Family Resource Center received a $10,000 grant to implement a new research-based Nurturing Parenting Program, with goals of reducing child abuse/neglect, increasing parenting skills and helping family reunification.
A $7,000 grant went to Solutions Center to expand a program removing small financial barriers to safety and stability faced by victims of domestic violence and for a new program helping women who have left abusive relationships move towards emotional healing and empowerment, incorporating equine therapy. Both programs are collaborations between Solutions Center Shelter and Support Services and Agnesian HealthCare Domestic Violence programs, with Mahala’s Hope an additional partner on the new program.
Clarity Care’s “Help at Home” program, helping low-income elderly women and those with disabilities living independently remain in their homes, received a $3,000 grant. The grant supports program services in the Fond du Lac area.
Girls on the Run, a Fond du Lac School District program for elementary school girls combining an interactive curriculum and running to inspire self-respect and healthy lifestyles, has been supported by Fond du Lac Area Women’s Fund since its 2012 inception. It has grown from one team of 15 girls to reach 150-165 girls. This year’s $2,500 grant will support a pilot middle school program and expansion to all elementary schools.
Moraine Park Technical College received $2,000 for its Student Emergency Fund, for Fond du Lac County women at risk of dropping out of college due to unforeseen financial emergencies.
Women’s Fund Grants committee chair Laurice Snyder said, “We are excited about the new programs we will be supporting, and we hope this inspires local agencies to create more programs that address the issues facing women and girls.”
